Members of Southampton’s Muslim and Sikh communities have reported a series of alleged racist incidents across the city during June and early July 2026.
Women Targeted in Suspected Racist Assault

Location: Near 95–97 Bridge Road, Southampton
Two women were allegedly subjected to a racially motivated assault while walking along Bridge Road on Thursday evening. According to reports, several males travelling in a small white car threw a bottle containing urine at the victims before driving away laughing. The women were left shocked and distressed by the incident. Due to the sudden nature of the attack, they were unable to record the vehicle registration number or identify the make and model of the car.
The incident has been reported to police. Community members are appealing for witnesses and requesting that residents or businesses in the area check CCTV footage and dashcam recordings that may assist with identifying those responsible.
Somali Man Chased by Group Making Anti-Immigrant Remarks

Location: Derby Road to Argyle Road, Southampton
A member of Southampton’s Somali community reported being chased by three individuals travelling in an Enterprise rental van while in the Derby Road and Argyle Road area. The victim stated that the group shouted anti-immigrant abuse, including comments telling him that he was an immigrant and should leave the country. He further reported that the individuals appeared to be carrying weapons.
The man managed to escape unharmed after running from the corner of Derby Road to midway along Argyle Road, where the suspects eventually abandoned the pursuit. Police were informed of the incident. The location is close to several Muslim-owned businesses and community facilities, raising concerns among local residents about public safety and targeted harassment.
Resident Threatened After Being Asked About Religion

Location: Warren Crescent, Shirley, Southampton
A resident in the Shirley area reported a concerning encounter at their home when a man allegedly knocked on the door and asked whether they were Muslim.
According to the report, when the resident declined to answer, the man allegedly responded by saying there would be “trouble” if they did not cooperate. The individual then left the area.
Police were contacted and attended the scene. Officers reportedly began patrols in the area while searching for the suspect.
The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, of average to slightly above-average height, with short brown or black hair, a slightly muscular build, and wearing a turquoise T-shirt.

Following demonstrations linked to the Henry Nowak case, multiple individuals were reported performing Nazi salutes and shouting “White Power” during protests attended by far-right activists. Violence also broke out against police officers and property.
2–5 June 2026 – Southampton
Members of the Sikh community reported increased fears for their safety. Local gurdwaras received calls from worshippers asking whether it was safe to attend services, with some reportedly reducing attendance because of fears of anti-Sikh hostility.
Early June 2026 – Southampton Supermarket
A Sikh priest was reportedly subjected to verbal racist abuse and was subsequently assaulted in a supermarket.
Early June 2026 – Southampton
A Sikh care worker reported that a client whom he had supported for many years refused to accept care from him because he was visibly Sikh, wearing a turban and beard.

An Afghan pupil at a local school was reportedly subjected to a racist slur.
